Digital Seller Guide compares what creators keep per sale on Whop, Gumroad, Payhip, Stan Store, Skool, Kajabi, Patreon, Paddle and Lemon Squeezy

TUALATIN, OREGON, OR, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A creator selling a $10 template keeps $9.43 on one platform and $7.91 on another, according to a fee comparison published today by Digital Seller Guide (digitalsellerguide.com), an independent guide to selling digital products, courses and memberships online. The analysis applies each provider's published pricing to single sales of $10, $50 and $100 across 13 plans from nine platforms, and to monthly sales of $500, $2,000 and $10,000.

On a $50 sale paid by a US card, sellers keep between $42.75 on Gumroad (10% + $0.50 plus card processing) and $48.35 on Whop (2.7% + $0.30). The gap is widest on low-priced products, where the fixed part of each fee dominates: a $10 sale costs $0.57 on Whop, about $0.59 on Stan Store, Payhip Pro, Skool Pro and Kajabi, $1.00 on Paddle and Lemon Squeezy, $1.59 on Patreon and $2.09 on Gumroad.

Key findings:

• Monthly plans only pay off at volume. Kajabi's $179 Basic plan absorbs 39.3% of revenue for a seller making $500 a month, falling to 5.3% at $10,000. Stan Store's $29 plan takes 9.3% at $500 and 3.8% at $10,000.
• The fixed fee decides cheap products. A $0.30 to $0.80 fixed charge is 3% to 8% of a $10 price before any percentage is applied, so sellers of low-priced templates, presets and e-books should compare the fixed fee first.
• Tax handling has a price. Merchant-of-record platforms (Paddle, Lemon Squeezy and Gumroad) cost two to three percentage points more per sale but take on sales-tax and VAT liability. Whop's optional managed tax service adds 2% and collects tax, but leaves the creator as the legal seller.
• Price is a positioning choice. Across 304 paid memberships and communities sold on Whop, the median price was $95 per 30 days. Reselling groups sat well below that, at about $35, and e-commerce communities at about $75. Higher prices were not associated with better buyer ratings.

"Most creators compare the headline percentage and miss the fixed fee and the monthly plan, which matter more for small products and small sellers," said Karel Moreau, editor of Digital Seller Guide. "We published every rate with a link to the provider's own pricing page, so anyone can check the arithmetic."

The comparison also explains when a merchant of record is worth its higher rate, typically for sellers whose buyers are spread across many countries, and links to a plain-language explainer of what a merchant of record does on sister site MigratePayments.com. For creators already on another platform, MigratePayments.com publishes step-by-step migration guides for leaving Gumroad, Kajabi, Skool and Patreon without losing existing members.

The pricing benchmark draws on public Whop listings tracked by Digital Seller Guide's sister review sites, including resellerdiscords.com and ecomdiscords.com, which publish buyer-side research on what paid communities cost and how members rate them.

Method. Fees were taken from each provider's public pricing page on 5 October 2026 and applied to one-time payments by US card with optional add-ons switched off. Where a platform charges card processing on top of its own fee (Stan Store, Payhip, Gumroad and Patreon), Stripe's standard US rate of 2.9% + $0.30 was used. Prices change; the provider's checkout at the time of purchase applies.

Disclosure. Digital Seller Guide is a Whop Partner and may earn a share of Whop's fees when readers open a Whop account through its links. Partner commissions did not enter the analysis, and the comparison shows where other platforms cost the same or less, or include services Whop does not.
